My Story

I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and am a proud Iowa State Cyclone. Immediately following college graduation as a graphic designer, I moved to Minneapolis with my husband. We thought we’d be here a couple years or so. Fast forward 29 years and 4 homes later- we are still here! I’ve lived in Minnesota longer than I lived in my home state of Iowa.

After freelancing in graphic design for a bit, I decided that I would be most happy as an elementary teacher. Even if it meant going back to school to earn a Master Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN), while working full-time. I am certified to teach K-6 and spent 16 years as a 3rd grade teacher at a parochial school in Minneapolis. Some of the best years of my life! A few years ago, I went back to school at Hamline University to earn a K-12 Reading License. Currently, I am a K-4 Reading Specialist at a Title 1 school with a 70% Hispanic population. I love teaching literacy to elementary kids. So glad I followed my dreams!
